According to data from the Ministry of Development gathered, the approximately 52,000 million euros correspond to the 436,537 free housing transactions that were made in 2016, up 14% year on year.
In particular, free second-hand homes mobilized 53,641.4 million (19.4% more), while the amount of new homes was much lower, with 7,195.6 million (+ 2%).
Madrid was the region with the highest amount in free housing transactions in 2016, with 12,303.1 million euros. Behind them were Catalonia (11,972.9), Andalusia (9,793.2) and the Valencian Community (7,010.6).
The Balearic Islands (3,541.9), the Basque Country (3,421.6), the Canary Islands (2,663.6), Castile and Leon (1,851.4), Galicia (1,612.6), Murcia (1,259.5) -La Mancha (1,336.8) and Aragon (1,149.5).
Meanwhile, the regions where the free housing sector moved the least money were Asturias (741.1), Cantabria (643.9), Navarre (619.6), Extremadura (469.7), La Rioja (297, 6) and Ceuta and Melilla (148.3 between the two).
